I have had the opportunity to fish many different rod blanks built by many different manufacturers over the years. I have reached a point where I know which blanks I prefer, and which ones I do not. I have also been able to fish a variety of custom wrapped rods built on various blanks. I was taught to wrap rods by one of the best wrappers I have had the pleasure to call a friend.
Through all of this, Cam at MOAM rods stands out. His attention to detail and willingness to go above and beyond has impressed me every time I see one of his sticks. I challenged Cam with building a few “oddball” rods that aren’t of the normal variety most rod builders would see, an inshore blank and a heavy jig stick converted for fishing heavy swimbaits. Not only did Cam immediately agree to build on those blanks (some guys will only build on “their” blanks), he took my basic design that I have used and built for years and blew it out of the water. He did things that I have never even thought of like adding pigment to a cork filler to give my rod a unique touch. His wraps are clean and even, and every rod he builds is unique. The quality of the build isn’t the most important aspect of the MOAM business model. The receptiveness to feedback and passion is what sets him apart. He is always striving to improve, but the treatment as a friend, rather than a customer makes all the difference in the world Austin Earnest |
